Safety First

Fireworks are an American tradition, but they must be treated with respect. Follow these 10 safety tips to ensure your celebration stays safe and legal.

01.

Use Common Sense – Know the Rules, Read the Labels

Safety begins with following the law and using common sense. Always obey local ordinances regarding the purchase and use of fireworks. Before use, carefully read all product cautions, warnings, and instructions to ensure you understand how each item performs before lighting it.

02.

Designate a Sober Adult

Keep your friends, family, and yourself safe by never consuming alcohol or drugs while handling and/or lighting fireworks.

03.

Water at the Ready

Always have a hose, bucket of water, or fire extinguisher nearby. Pre-water grass near shooting area to help prevent fires.

04.

Adult Supervision

Children should never handle, play with, or light any fireworks and should be supervised at all times.

05.

Eye Protection

Never put your face or any part of your body over a firework. Never look into a tube. Anyone shooting fireworks should always wear safety glasses or goggles.

06.

Hard Level Ground

Never use fireworks indoors, in a garage, or under a covered patio. Only light fireworks on a smooth, hard, flat, and level surface clear of overhead obstructions like trees and powerlines.

07.

Brace Your Items

Use cinder blocks or bricks paced around items to avoid accidental tip overs. Make sure blocks are on the spectator side. Use a bucket with sand to hold stick items like roman candles.

08.

Watch the Wind

Be cautious in windy conditions. Ensure wind is blowing away from spectators and structures as well as your firework storage area.

09.

Keep Your Distance

Spectators should be at least 35ft away for fountains and 150ft for aerials. Safety glasses or goggles are recommended.

10.

One at a Time

Light only one firework at a time. Light fuse and get away quickly. When done, thoroughly soak every item shot to ensure it cannot reignite.

Be Safe, Legal, and Texas Proud

Big-Tex Fireworks is your premier provider of state-approved consumer fireworks. We are dedicated to keeping our customers informed and safe. For additional resources on responsible use, we recommend visiting the American Pyrotechnics Safety and Education Foundation.

Understanding the Law: Fireworks regulations can be complex. Because federal law restricts the transport of hazardous materials, we cannot ship fireworks via mail order, UPS, FedEx, or the US Postal Service. Additionally, the FAA strictly prohibits fireworks on all commercial flights.

Product Testing: All of the Big-Tex Fireworks products are laboratory tested to insure safety, performance, and compliance with the U.S. law and standards established by the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and AFSL for UN0336 1.4G (Class C) consumer fireworks.

Why Buy Local? State and local laws vary significantly. An item legal in a neighboring state might be illegal here. For example, Texas law has specific size requirements for rockets; standard “bottle rockets” often sold in other states are prohibited here. To ensure you are compliant with the law and avoiding illegal items, always purchase from a licensed local retailer like Big-Tex Fireworks.
